of normal use that included reading, shopping, watching video, browsing the web, drawing, playing a console -
level game, taking and editing photos, the Kindle Fire HDX 7 - inch's battery lasted throughout the day and night.
levels have lots
of verticality and are somehow designed to accommodate everything, from players who want to use Blink to take advantage
of that verticality to those who want to stick to the ground to those who refuse the supernatural powers at the start
of the
game and want to play purely as a
normal human with an aptitude for turning other human's into shish - kebabs.
Raising these
levels high enough lets you see not one, but 2 endings for each character, each tied to the
Normal and True Ending paths
of the
game's finale.
The art direction
of this
game fits the imaginative aspect extremely well, as every object in the
game, from the background to the borders
of the
levels, are designed to be
normal household objects like graph paper and rulers.
A trip to the shop before selecting your
level can help to push the boss battle odds slightly back in your favour, with health upgrades, slow - mo regeneration upgrades and plenty
of powerful weapons available to buy, but affording these will take finishing several
levels to ensure you have enough coin to buy them, something which isn't a joyous task when you're breezing through the
game's easy setting over and over just to get something powerful enough to conquer the
normal setting.
As you start up the
game there is only one option to play, which is the main story and the difficult
level is set to
Normal, but as soon as you finish this mission more missions unlock and also judging by how you finished the mission you also get unlockable weapons etc. to help you out if you choose to redo the mission again to try and get a better ranking as you finish the mission with an overview
of how well, or bad, you did.
It wasn't until the very final
levels of the
game that I started having trouble, and I played the entire
game taking on both hard and
normal difficulty missions.
The
game has the
normal assortment
of leveling - up, equipment upgrades, items to find and purchase, and magic.
The
game comes with a Challenge Tower that has a total
of 300
levels to get through, and most
of them provide completely different takes on the
normal fights or odd challenges such as finding the object among three skulls, testing your might by breaking through concrete or other barmy things.
(If «waves
of bullets» scares you, don't worry — there are only a few really bullet - intensive areas in the
game, and none
of them approach «bullet hell»
levels of density — at least not on
Normal difficulty.)
Call
of Duty's signature announcements and pop - ups every time you
level up or pull
of a certain feat have become a bit
of a parody in the core gaming community but for some odd reason, Sledgehammer
games appear to have embraced it and decided to launch a veritable assault on your retinas with a blitzkrieg
of annoying noises and banners every time you pull off a kill slightly above «
normal» (and by a
normal kill we mean one that isn't avenging a death, or a payback, or a double kill, or a comeback kill, or a myriad
of countless other non-
normal kills).
This is a
normal level of catastrophe in Overcooked, a wonderfully chaotic local co-op cooking
game that gives real power to the words «too many cooks spoil the broth.»
The same could be the case here, with the model being kept the same size as Luigi's in order to avoid having to tweak
of the
game engine,
level design or object graphics to work with Mario's own
normal dimensions.
On a personal
level I don't feel the need to put my patience to the test and play through the entirety
of the Hardcore and Murderous difficulty
levels — that's not something I'd ever do with any
game — but the huge story that is found will eat up many hours in the
Normal format alone.
Normal difficulty will no doubt be where the majority
of gamers take in the action — especially as enemy bullets disappear when you make a kill — and you'll be grateful for it too as this ensures that enemies react a little slower than those found on the Hardcore and Murderous
levels.
The basic strategy
of the old X-COM
games is still preserved here along with the insane
level of difficulty (even on
normal).
In the specific case
of The Wonderful 101, there are two difficulty
levels below
Normal (Easy & Very Easy) and the
game has a VERY generous checkpoint system.
There's quite a few cinematic flourishes to SMW, though, most notably the narration after each castle is destroyed, the spotlight after each completed
normal level, and the ending «credits» for each
of the enemies and bosses in the
game.
The difficulty
level has definitely been turned up from the previous
game, and as a result you may notice an increased gap between Easy and
Normal; however this has partly been offset by a revamped system
of help items.
Defeated, players will then have to revisit the
game's sizable amount
of levels, and relentlessly search for the sticker they need; the
game has 96 different
normal stickers, and 64 «Thing Stickers,» so this is no small task either.
The
game also contains three different difficulty
levels,
Normal, Nightmare and Hell with the harder difficulty offering more rewards in terms
of better items and more experience.
All
of these different
game - modes can be played on either easy
normal or hard difficulties through the seven different
levels (tracks) the
game has to offer.
The 3D Sonic Unleashed did its best to try and capture the spirit
of 2D Sonic
games, although its
normal Sonic
levels were criticised by some for being too fast.
A more seasoned shmup player should likely have little trouble getting through the
game on
Normal within a couple
of tries, but even the most die hard will have difficulty with the harder
levels.
Before you enter the
game, you can choose the name and color
of your stickman, and also the difficulty
level (easy,
normal or pro).
They also get into the four difficulty
levels a bit, with «
Normal»
of course being most on par with your average Mega Man
game, which they noted was still a bit more challenging than many
of today's
games.
In the original
game, there was a cap on the power
level you could obtain through
normal play, and then a higher cap that you could only reach by collecting gear from the most challenging activities, like hard - mode raids and the Trials
of Osiris competitive PvP mode.
