students are
on track to take credit bearing courses from day one — the country is likely to
learn that scarcely one - third of all
students, and many fewer low - income
students, are at that
level now.
Broadly speaking, we need to concentrate
on improving the quality of teaching so that all
students can
learn at high
levels.
With these authentic experiences, for both
students and teachers, it is our hope that conceptions of
learning, as broader than classroom teaching and
learning, increase kindness both
on an individual and global
level.
Meeting this fifth challenge depends
on better ways of: identifying children at risk of being locked into trajectories of low achievement at the earliest possible ages; enhancing
levels of school readiness; diagnosing
learning difficulties upon entry to school; and intervening intensively during the early years of school to address individual
learning needs to give as many
students as possible the chance of successful ongoing
learning.
If you can
learn a little about your
students before jumping in (their developmental
levels, what type of workers / learners they are, their prior knowledge
on the topic), the better off you'll be in your dual role as coach and adviser.

NCLB has a fairly simple structure: states were required to develop
