programs, and second in terms of helping indie authors in the process of getting their books discovered by a larger public audience.
Ebook distribution platform Smashwords, one of the top retailers for self - published and digitally published works, unveiled a new
program today that will make it even easier and more lucrative for
libraries to put indie authors» titles in the devices of digital reading patrons.
Today, Baker & Taylor announced it is initiating a new pilot
program with Penguin to provide a number of American
libraries with
ebooks.
The premise the new
program is a hardcore marketing campaign with posters, videos, postcards and promotional materials to build awareness to the public on the fact they can borrow
eBooks from the
library and the limitations facing them.
During the pilot
program, Penguin will make its
ebooks available to the
libraries for one year with renewable terms, and
library patrons will be able to access the collection remotely utilizing their personal devices, including PCs, iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), Nooks, and Android devices.

Macmillan and Overdrive announced a new
ebook pilot
program last month that will see a number of titles from their Minotaur imprint become available to
libraries.
The major ones in New York that were selected for the recent
ebook trial
programs all deal with more than one digital
library content delivery method.
Staff created this
program to reach out to
library customers and provide readers advisory focused on «hidden gems» in the
eBook collection.
In early 2013, Macmillan started a public
library pilot
program with a select group of backlist
ebooks from its Minotaur Books mystery and crime fiction imprint.
Hopefully, as more major
library systems showcase highly successful pilot
programs and more publishers adopt the attitude that an
ebook really is just a book, lending will continue to grow.

This is a
program for managing your
ebook library, and it is unbelievably useful.
Research indicates that
ebook users are already «power users» of
library resources, regularly visiting their local
libraries for
programming and to borrow materials, as well as borrowing
ebooks online, and doing all those activities in great gulps.
It was a little clunky at first to do
library lending because the
libraries were a little sketchy on their educational
