needs, as well.
This means the teachers get support but our
libraries are now
staffed with Instructional assistants that are not trained to truely support students
needs.
Principal Hayter tells us that these changes are not about following a trend; that the changes at this school are a result of talking with teaching and
library staff, seeing what everyone's
needs are, and then working collaboratively with everyone to create a communal space where learning can work even better.
But I think this is stunningly insufficient if we do not add our voices to those calling for real and comprehensive answers to our gun problem, and if we fail to highlight how many schools are insufficiently prepared to meet their most pressing
needs — a rich curriculum, guidance and full care of students, nutrition programs, fully funded and
staffed libraries, working facilities — then we are merely acquiescing to further neglect of our students and co-workers.
This interactive session will help
library staff more effectively use and communicate these competencies in their
libraries, and provide feedback to YALSA on support
libraries need to implement them.
