The final months of mat leave or pat leave are often spent in a frenzy trying to secure a
daycare spot, and
families are put in the difficult position of choosing any
daycare that will take them —
licensed or not — at a time that's already pretty emotional for some parents as they transition back to work.
While rules vary depending on where you live, most locations require in - home
daycare providers to be
licensed or registered when caring for more than three children that are not from the same
family.
A good home
daycare provider is
licensed by your state (and possibly accredited by the National Association for
Family Child Care), has been in business for a while, and has clear rules and regulations, a firm sick - child policy, and emergency backup care.
Family daycares are also less regulated, and may or may not be
licensed.

licensed in Illinois and should be monitored by the Illinois Department of Children and
Family Services (DCFS), accidents and injuries still happen at
daycare facilities on a regular basis in the Chicago area.
