(a) Every marriage and family
therapist, marriage and family
therapist intern, clinical professional counselor or clinical professional counselor intern who
applies for a
license or who is

Continuing Competency requirements
apply only to
Licensed Professional Counselors,
Licensed Marriage & Family
Therapists, and
Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioners.
All graduates from the program will have all of the academic requirements needed to
apply for a
Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapist (LMFT).
Professionals who complete all training requirements and hold a mental health
license are eligible to
apply to become a Certified Child - Parent Relationship
Therapist.
Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses,
licensed mental health counselors, marriage and family
therapists, and other professional care givers are invited to
apply to the program.
The fingerprint criminal history and sex offender registry checks
apply to an applicant seeking licensure or reinstatement as a
Licensed Social Worker (LSW),
Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW),
Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW),
Licensed Marriage Family
Therapist Associate (LMFTA) and
Licensed Marriage Family
Therapist (LMFT).
When the supervision period is completed, you can
apply to the regulatory commission to take a state
licensing exam or the national examination for marriage and family
therapists.
With the two years, clinical hours, and supervision hours completed, the LGMFT may
apply to the Board of Professional Counselors and
Therapists for the
Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family
Therapist (LCMFT) designation which enables independent practice.
Individuals who hold an LCMFT from Washington, DC may
apply for Clinical Membership via the licensure track by selecting Washington DC from the menu under «I am
licensed / certified as a Marriage and Family

therapist intern, at any time after completing 1 year as a marriage and family
therapist intern and before the expiration of his or her
license as a marriage and family
