It looks somewhat similar to the bed sores that occur in debilitated people due to poor circulation and pressure; but in dogs, the cause is their continuous
licking of a small area.

When one or two
small areas of your pet's skin are damaged by persistent
licking and chewing (acral self - trauma) and your vet has found no parasites or fungi in a skin scraping, the most commons causes I have found in dogs are boredom, separation anxiety, arthritis and obsessive compulsive behavior (OCD)(pretty much in that order).
They may also be noticed around the tail and anus as
small yellow specks which can cause your dog to scrape its butt along the ground or cause excessive
licking of the
