With two lenses comes the ability to add depth of field to images and the Note 8's new
Live Focus feature could be one of the best.
The quality and accuracy
of Live Focus or 2x zoom doesn't seem to have changed compared to the Note 8, probably because the secondary sensor hasn't received any upgrade.
The Note 8 will let you know when situations are ideal
for Live Focus with a message above the blur slider.
When shooting
in Live Focus mode, there are a few things to be aware of.
When
using Live Focus, the Note 8 will also save both images so you're able to pick from access either image at a moment's notice.
Called Live Focus, it works fairly well in brightly lit environments, and it's a great way to take quick, professional - looking shots for sharing on social media.
You can then switch between the close - up
Live Focus shot, or view the wider angle shot that captured the scene and its surroundings.
With the
new Live Focus feature, you can adjust the blur effect on the background of portraits you take both before and after the shot, which makes this one versatile camera phone.
The main goal with the secondary camera is to
enable Live Focus, the feature that made its debut a few months ago on the Note 8.
The secondary camera at the front is used to create a background blur effect and
introduces Live Focus for the front camera, but more on that later.
Make sure you're using the rear shooter,
as Live Focus is not supported on the front - facing camera.
The device includes new camera features,
including Live Focus, which uses the individual lenses to create a depth of focus effect in images.
Watch for the on - screen notification — a yellow box with the words «
Live focus ready» — before pressing the shutter button.
Now, there is a dual camera setup on the back that is going to provide the
same Live Focus feature as on the Note 8.
Don't stress about the blog, it shouldn't be your
main life focus over the real world!
Since
Live Focus already allows you to adjust that after taking the shot, the aperture might be redundant.
The lack of a software -
only Live Focus mode on the S8 is perhaps the biggest complaint users have about this update.
How tragic it would be to live a
whole life focusing on mundane, meaningless things, and look back at the end of life and realize you've lived a wasted it.
People are leading more
dynamic lives focused on entertainment, and senior living communities are catering to a vibrant lifestyle through the design, amenities, décor and dining experiences.
Yes I may be looking a bit critically at the results, but it shows just how good each camera is on its own versus the potentially hit - or -
miss Live Focus.
Finally, make sure the two
Live Focus circles are yellow before pressing the shutter button.
The dual cameras play a large role in the Note 8
Live Focus processing, but this effect can also be achieved in software only.
The idea
behind Live Focus is that you can customize the blur behind your subject to achieve the ideal portrait look.
While we would love to
see Live Focus on the S8, it seems a bit unlikely that this will actually occur.
The results are still great in regular photos, but I miss having a slider to adjust the amount of blur that's applied to a photo's background
when Live Focus is enabled.
We've only taken a look at one photo, though, so we'll have to do more testing to see if this inconsistency is rampant
in Live Focus mode.
This puts you in
Live Focus mode, where you'll be presented with a slider to control the strength of the depth - of - field effect.
Live focus feature will also be available with the camera, which lets you change the background blur on images after capturing.
While I've stopped
using Live Focus, I continue to use the 2x zoom capability almost every time I use the rear camera.
For now, we'll touch on one more new feature we were particularly impressed with; it's
called Live Focus.
The biggest changes include the Infinity display and the dual front camera
with Live Focus.
You'll notice there are 29 «regular» photos in the gallery above, and only three
Live Focus shots — I think that says something.
The
new Live Focus allows users to set and adjust the intensity of background blur of captured images, both before and after the photo is taken.
The 2x lens, while hardly ever used
for Live Focus, still found its place for more dramatic shots with a tighter field of view.
The primary front camera is also a 16MP sensor, while the secondary sensor is an 8MP unit that helps
take Live Focus photos like the ones we saw from the rear camera on the Galaxy Note 8.
There are also
live focus options on the front camera (digitally created), as well as a pro mode for more direct control over individual settings, like aperture, ISO and shutter speed.
We took more
Live Focus pictures of larger objects in a bigger amount of space with the Note 8, than we did with Portrait Mode on the iPhone.
When the Galaxy Note 8 came out with the first dual camera setup for a Samsung flagship, the company's marketing was all about the features the dual camera enabled, such as 2x zoom and
Live Focus photos.
