We thought that the search for
life on other planets meant finding Earth's twin.
Not exact matches
ddeev... because I would consider, and I do, that there might be
other life forms
on one of the 400 billion
planets thought to be inexistence, does not
mean that I would devote my
life to that possibility.
But why should sense even count, i
mean you people believe that you are special and get to
life forever compared to all the
other creatures
on this
planet — such arrogance and pride — as the old saying goes, this will be your downfall!
I
mean the burning passion of
lived awareness that we occupy a precarious existence
on this
planet together with the soil and its flowers, the water and its fishes, the air and its birds, the fire and energy sources; that our fellow human beings are truly brothers and sisters with whom it is better always to make love - justice than war; and that gentleness lasts longer and touches more deeply than
other kinds of power.
It
means that the earth
on which we
live is not the center of the physical universe, but a comparatively small
planet revolving round a very average - sized star, which in turn is but one of a hundred thousand million
others forming the galaxy we call the Milky Way, and that part of the universe that our existing telescopes have so far penetrated contains about a hundred million star systems or nebulae, similar to our galaxy.
If
life does turn up, the discovery could
mean that
life arose independently
on both
planets — suggesting that it is common in the universe — or that it arose
on one
planet and spread to the
other.
Of course, this doesn't
mean that these
planets will actually be habitable — that depends
on whether they're made of rock and iron, have protective atmospheres and ingredients like water and
other chemical building blocks for
life as we know it.
They
lived on the
other side of the
planet for most of my childhood, yet the half dozen times I spent with them left me with some powerful examples of what it
means to be productive person and what values are important.

... what I'm saying is that if we and all the
other species
on earth are the only
life forms in the universe and if there are no gods and let's face it apart from a few tired scrolls written 300 years after the death of Jesus and his disciples there is no actual proof of a God or gods then we, the humans, who are
meant to be at the height of the evolutionary tree, are in fact at the bottom because no
other species
on this
planet is enslaved to the economy.
By
other forms of
life, I
mean almost every entity
on the
planet living in all but the most except extreme areas.
It does NOT
mean we should not care about the
other life forms
on this
planet or the environment... in fact it does the reverse because we all need to be even more aware and connected to nature and STOP messing the place up!
I think that rational self interest
means I have an obligation to care about the
planet I
live on and the people and
other creatures who do to.
