Thanks to
lifetime Platinum status in the AAdvantage program I would still have the following benefits I consider important:
I am about to hit
lifetime platinum status with Marriott (2 million points and 750 + paid nights), currently have about 100K points, and have obtained at least a couple of months worth of hotel stays on my points.
I completed 50 nights with Starwood, so I soon will have Starwood
Lifetime Platinum status.
And of course there's lifetime status, achieve 500 eligible nights total and 10 years of Platinum status to earn SPG
Lifetime Platinum status.
I've very close to lifetime Gold status with Marriott and it won't take me too much longer to earn
lifetime Platinum status so I'm very keen not to see those disappear into thin air.
I could say that the latest set of devaluations to AAdvantage were the final straw but, if I'm being honest, I had a reasonable idea what I'd be doing before American devalued
lifetime Platinum status and introduced minimum spend requirements a couple of weeks ago.
Early next year I have a Qatar Airways Business Class trip booked to Bangkok and, between that trip and a flight I'm taking just after New Year, I'll have BA Silver status sown up before January is out (my BAEC year starts in December but I'll be crediting flights to AAdvantage up until the end of this year)... but Silver status isn't of much use to me as I already hold
Lifetime Platinum status with AAdvantage and that gives me most of the same benefits as BA Silver.
Even when I'm back in the US I'm not sure I'm going to care about complimentary upgrades to PE (if that's what happens) if I can still get an exit row with
my lifetime Platinum status.

Lifetime Platinum status soon.
I'm in the process of trying to tie up
Lifetime Platinum status with Marriott (before Marriott Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest are combined) so, price permitting, I wanted to book a Marriott property to help boost my points balance.
Staying at a Marriott property is absolutely fine with me as it will give me more nights towards
lifetime Platinum status (which I'm currently actively chasing) and, as my status gives me a guaranteed 4 pm check - out, that will be useful on my final day when my departing flight isn't until late in the evening.
Relatively speaking I'm pretty close to locking in Marriott
Lifetime Platinum status so, for the past year, I've been making an extra effort to earn the Marriott Rewards points I need to take me over the line before Marriott Rewards and Starwood SPG are merged (the night requirement for lifetime status is as good as in the bag).
Right now I'm leaning towards booking the Marriott because the guys on Flyertalk seem to think it's pretty good (they're not normally overly biased), I like the overall look of the property and I'll get even closer to
the Lifetime Platinum status I'm chasing.
I'm making a concerted effort to hit the Marriott
Lifetime Platinum status targets before Marriott Rewards and SPG are combined (expected at some point in 2019) and I need all the Marriott Rewards points I can get.

lifetime status higher than I have before — I like the idea of not having to qualify for
Platinum every year but still having the benefits to use at my favorite Starwood properties.
