On view February 21, 2018 through October 14, 2024, Spencer Finch: Moon Dust presents an abstract
sculpture comprised of 417 LED
light bulbs that together represent the molecular structure of the moon dust gathered from NASA's 1972 Apollo space mission.

Light, there will be a number of new

New works
on view in LIGHTENING consist of a series of biomorphic alabaster
sculptures with incandescent
light bulbs inserted, and
sculptures made of tree branches that are composed with the precision of a master wood - worker.
Two floors down, soft white panels overlap in waves hiding overhead
lighting — minimal and linear, not unlike the
sculptures of Robert Irwin, also
on view.
On view will be
sculptured silhouettes of the female form cut from a single
light - weight aluminum sheet.
Two new dynamic
light sculptures entitled Modern Wonder will be
on view, along with one of the artist's most iconic works, Madame, from January 15 through March 22, 2014 at the Gallery's 11th Avenue Windows space.
Light on the Familiar was organized by the DeCordova Museum and
Sculpture Park in Lincoln, Massachusetts where it was
on view last fall.

Viewing the reflected images of the gallery's
lighting tracks (the
light fixtures have been removed) and skylights
on the bottom of the boxes, I got the sensation that the recessed skylights could be inverted Judd
sculptures.
The icons are dispersed throughout various public and private collections, including the Dia Art Foundation, the Judd Foundation (Donald Judd was one of the artist's closest friends), and the National Gallery of Canada, but since April five of the eight have been
on view at the Dan Flavin Art Institute in Bridgehampton, a former firehouse and Baptist church renovated under Flavin's direction in the early 1980s and housing a permanent installation of his fluorescent
light - tube
sculptures.
Jason Kalogiros» artworks in The Measure, The Weight, The Ground, The Scale,
on view at Capital, bring to
light the inherent reproducibility shared between this mode of
sculpture and photography, in turn raising questions about the supposed autonomy of the art object.

The abstract collages, paintings, and
sculptures on view, made of neutral - colored, plain materials (brown and blue carpets painted in white, beige scraps of paper, clear tape and
light brown masking tape, white foam core, discarded aluminum, plywood) echoed long - established tendencies in abstraction, such as Robert Rauschenberg's experiments with nontraditional materials and Richard Tuttle's casual approach to art making.
While easy to read, each
sculpture is difficult to know perceptually, appearing to change before our eyes, depending
on the
viewing angle, distance and
light.
It is primal, obvious, utilitarian — an idea waiting to be explored and adds a new dimension and perspective
on how we
view what we have from another angle»; about the Krysalis, «When
lit, they appear to me as a Chrysalis - exuding it's own energy with it's glow... like a hanging
sculpture about to come alive.
