light upon the words that surround it and, in doing so, cause us to read these words more deeply.

As ever at such moments, we need to allow the
light of Christ, the
Word made flesh, to shine more brightly
upon our minds and hearts.
M. Ratisbonne represents his own part in the conversations as having been of a
light and chaffing order; but he notes the fact that for some days he was unable to banish the
words of the prayer from his mind, and that the night before the crisis he had a sort of nightmare, in the imagery of which a black cross with no Christ

light both of experience and of preconceived ideas as what the
Word of God should fittingly proclaim.
