Because the user needs to use their phone to register on the
Allo website, we can presume that chats are still tied to a phone number and not centrally backed up
like Google Hangouts, which is similar to the way WhatsApp approaches its web client, too.
After digging a little deeper, though, you'll find there's a lot to
like about
Allo.

Allo practically does the messaging for you.
Just
like Google Assistant inside
Allo (the messaging app that didn't really take off), Cortana will give users restaurant options, movie reviews based on the context of the chat.
The listing photos also take some time to advertise the recently launched
Allo and Duo app alongside features
like USB Type - C and Google Assistant.
In other words, Google is hoping
Allo will grow into a platform,
like many messaging apps already have.
You can disconnect your account from
Allo, however, and the only difference is that the app won't be able to tap into your personal information in your other Google products —
like Calendar, Gmail, and Photos.
