There are conditions where medications like cyclosporine may be mandatory,
like pemphigus or autoimmune anemias But it is certainly not mandatory for itchy dogs.
They have some pretty serious health problems like cataracts, glaucoma, eyelids that roll inwards (entropion), hip dysplasia, diabetes, and some autoimmune diseases
like pemphigus.
Unfortunately, there are several «other» diseases that look
like Pemphigus and it's difficult to always get an accurate diagnosis.

This is what occurs in all autoimmune diseases - problems
like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis in people or thyroid disease,
pemphigus and certain anemias in dogs.
Unfortunately the breed is prone to several diseases
like cataracts, glaucoma, entropion, diabetes,
pemphigus, and hip dysplasia.
