You might have noticed that during the course of this article that we left out major companies
like Kobo Writing Life, Barnes and Noble
PUBIT, or Amazon's DTP.
I've actually sold a few
PubIt versions, but judging by the rankings, it still looks
like I'm selling more through Smashwords.
I think perhaps you either stumbled across a listing that was in flux because the author has uploaded to
Pubit and they've combined listings (the whole process at
Pubit seems to involve merging listings before the Smashwords one disappears), or perhaps you've gotten ahold of of some listings where there are other versions
like a print or audio edition that did not have the description limitation.

Like Susan said, if you didn't want to take the extra effort to do
Pubit, then just upload to Smashwords and sell there and several other places.
Like you, I'd recommend
PubIt over going through Smashwords, but I'd surely recommend going through Smashwords before NOT DOING IT AT ALL!
Suddenly, platforms
like Amazon's Kindle Direct, Smashwords, and B&N's
PubIt made publishing an e-book inexpensive and easy.
I read through their entire documentation and found eight other points I did not
like and concluded that my publishing company would not be using
PubIt unless or until it modifies its terms.
Whether or not the freemium model will work with ebooks
like it has with music and movies remains to be seen, especially given the access American readers have to platforms such as Amazon's Kindle Store, Barnes & Noble's

Many other companies

PUBIT do not really have great tools to make your book.

B&N's
Pubit is distressing parochial and really not competing in meaningful ways —
like making things better for authors or indeed, readers.
I don't see this as just a blog; there's a lot of potential to do new things now that platforms
like Amazon's KDP and Barnes & Noble's
Pubit are available for publishing original content.
My first book in the Area 51 series is selling
like crazy on
PubIt (Barnes & Noble), in the top 150.
