I think Mario games fit more under the genre of
adventure / Platform games along with the
likes of
Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong Country, Rayman, Kirby, Alex Kidd, Wonderboy, Banjo Kazooie, Yooka - Laylee, Commander Keen, Skunny etc but it is good to see it on the list.
If you're a real
Sonic connoisseur, then you'll notice that nearly all the sound effects in
Sonic 4 are comprised of sounds originating from
Sonic 1 all the way up to the
Sonic Adventure series; this may seem
like another copy - cat effort, but the old - school fans might enjoy it.
It also had great first - and second - party console studios
like Team Andromeda, responsible for the gorgeous Saturn hit Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Team
Sonic, that had more than a certain blue hedgehog to offer: innovative fire - fighting game Burning Rangers and flight
adventure Nights Into Dreams being prime examples.
What with
Sonic Adventures getting the re-release treatment, and the
likes of Ico and Shadow of Colossus soon to be seen in glorious HD, we at Dealspwn got rather nostalgic and began to wonder what games of old we'd most
like to see resurrected on our flat screens.
While I would
like to see 3D
Sonic return more to its «
Adventure» style roots or maybe branch out and try to do something
like the
Sonic Utopia fan game, I can't / shouldn't sit here and bitch about what
Sonic * should * be — that's entirely up to SEGA and
Sonic Team.
But, if you're
like me and don't enjoy them to the same extent as you did the classic ones, or even
Sonic Adventure, then
Sonic Forces is a decidedly average game; neither bad, nor particularly good either.

like fashion, you'll always be accompanied by at least one other character, which you can freely switch between to make use of their unique ability.

like about
Sonic Adventure —
Sonic's levels are largely fun and, yep, fast as hell, with design that evokes the best of the older 2D titles and embraces greater freedom of movement.
Because of this, Rocket Knight
Adventures feels much more in line with an arcade - style Contra, rather than following the ethos of typical console platformers
like all of
Sonic's other clones.
I remember fondly my first exposure to the Dreamcast with games
like Power Stone and
Sonic Adventure, which showed off brilliant graphical updates from the previous console generation, accompanied by a rather awkward controller design for the console itself.
It's
like how
Sonic Adventure did, but at least that game was released in an old console.
My exposure to the franchise continued with the TV series, which I also enjoyed, noting that the series felt very much
like DiC's 1993 series
Adventures of
Sonic the Hedgehog.
