TURBOCHARGED ENGINE No one
likes a car that looks sporty but can't get out of its own way, which is why we recommend the 2017 Hyundai
Veloster turbo.
The
Veloster remains a great value thanks to its sub - $ 19,000 starting price, standard features
like Apple CarPlay compatibility, and Hyundai's excellent 10 - year / 100, 000 - mile powertrain warranty.
Unlike more mainstream hatchbacks
like a VW Golf, but similar to a Mini Cooper 2 - door, the
Veloster has seating for only four passengers.
If the
Veloster has a best angle, it's the rear quarter, where the center exhaust and insect -
like rear lights enhance the visual width.
Much
like all recently revised Hyundais, the
Veloster sports a more angular, more aggressive design front and rear.
This is not the
Veloster's most flattering angle, but if I'm honest, I still
like it.
However, it's more likely the car will be equipped with a 1.6 - liter turbocharged four - cylinder mated to a seven - speed dual - clutch transmission, just
like the 2016 Hyundai
Veloster and 2016 Kia Optima.
Yet
like colorful shoes, the
Veloster must still serve a practical purpose.
And,
like those three premium go - faster brands, it will be the first of many N - branded Hyundai models to come, including a 280kW all - wheel drive RN30 version, an N model based on the forthcoming i30 Fastback and an all - new
Veloster N.
Like most Hyundai steering systems, the
Veloster Turbo is very light and would benefit from more heft.
We
like the Hyundai
Veloster — really, we do — even if its looks make promises it really can't deliver.
Who knows, maybe one day Kia will follow the lead of Hyundai's new N performance division and make a true hot hatch
like the high - performance Hyundai
Veloster N. No word on a US launch yet, but Kia says the Rio GT Line will be available in Europe this spring.
We assume that
like the i30N, the
Veloster N will also be available in a 247 hp state of tune.
