They want to stay in power and to keep the general populace so busy arguing over issues like guns, abortion, gay marriage, etc that we don't notice / care / understand they are squeezing billions and trillions of dollars out of the economy for their corporate overloads (and themselves), while we are all meant to greatful for a cost of living adjustment and hopefully being able to own a home.
What started as a pro-labor movement party has become more fixated on issues that are more limosine liberal crazy issues like unfettered access to abortion, LGBT nuttines Environmental Wackos, etc...
NPR has always struck me as fairly balanced in that they always give both sides of the story, no matter how nutty or fucking ridiculous the other side is (like those who still believe abortions cause cancer, climate change isn't real because there's still ice in the oceans, etc).
