like one area that libraries lead on,
at least for now.
Most people who do it will not get rich, just
like most authors

at Scholastic
books aren't billionaires.
Remember, no matter what you might be thinking about how your
book is going to sell (lines around the block
at your local
book superstore, waiting for you to

book), if you're
like 99.9 % of the self - published titles out there, most of your
books will either be sold directly by you or on the Internet.
This is an excellent
book marketing strategy that you can expand on, leave a

at different places in town,

Two things I've never understood are a) why authors give away things
like coverflats and bookmarks as prizes, and b) why publishers make authors pay for extra copies, yet give away scores of
books at RWA writer conferences (am really, really baffled by the constant promotion and marketing of
books to fellow authors when readers are ignored outside of the already tried and semi-failed
book signings!).
It works
like this:
At a
book signing, you snap a picture of yourself with the author using an iPad camera or another external camera.
- Customer Service, introducing people to new
books and genres based on their taste and history
at the store - Unique and engaging events -
like celebrating the anniversary of the moon landing by watching the original broadcast and decorating the store - local author
signings, local music and art, story hours, and a summer reading program for kids.
I believe it is a matter of value and as long as each store offers different things we value (
like book signings at physical stores or free shipping) both will continue to stay in business.
Like Margaret Atwood's Longpen, it loses a lot of the personal connection that makes
book signings popular — and
at least with the Longpen there was a videoconferencing element so the reader could
at least see the author «
signing» the
book.
I'm really hoping each of you will forward this on to

like to learn about free Kindle
books!
