While we do enjoy a lot of
Sonic fan
games out there, many of them feel more
like rehashes of the
classic games or just demos / unfinished projects.
As we were developing the
game, fully aware that we were making this great
game for people who have been loving the 3D
Sonic high - speed action titles, we also know we have this really hardcore group who grew up playing it on the Megadrive and the Genesis that want that pixel - based
classic Sonic game that are always
like, «Where's my 2D
game?!»
Sonic Forces is a
game which features both modern
Sonic gameplay and 2D levels and gives players the chance to design their own characters, while
Sonic Mania looks and plays
like the
classic Sonic titles, and has been developed by teams known for their work in the
Sonic fan community.
Everything in
Sonic Mania that feels
like a mistake (
like the way the
game's save system works) also feels authentic to the
games it is remixing, while its positives go above and beyond anything we saw from the
classic Sonic lineup.
Something for those hardcore retro
gamers who want that
classic experience, we can get them excited with Mania, while also delivering
Sonic Forces to a broader audience who
like that high - speed action.
Sonic Mania is a retro - style 2D platformer, very similar to the
classic, 16 - bit
Sonic games and features redesigned levels and all - new zones,
like Studiopolis Zone.
We played a couple of levels of
Sonic Mania last year, Green Hill and Studiopolis, and it really did play
like a well - polished
classic Sonic game.
These days this stuff is often sold to us as DLC or taken out entirely because of achievements and all that stuff, but
Sonic Mania doesn't mess about: it has a

Forces continues the trend of Modern
Sonic games being very average and not even an injection boost
like Classic Sonic or the new customisable Avatar character can save this from being average at best.
If you
like the way the original
Sonic games play, your only decision when it comes to
Sonic Mania shouldn't be whether or not it's worth buying, but rather, if you'll play it with or without the
classic CRT scanlines enabled.
Sonic Boom might be a massive redesign for Sega's
classic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise on the Wii U, but while the new character designs are very much in play, the
game for the 3DS looks
like an old friend.
I'll say this, If Sega would've tried doing that on the Genesis by implementing hardware or
game cart upgrades that increased the console's capabilities to match those of Nintendo's SNES» (almost
like how it was with NES, but, I doubt they did, since they didn't think about that through the console's lifespan), it would have greatly wowed
Classic Sonic fans.
But, if you're
like me and don't enjoy them to the same extent as you did the
classic ones, or even
Sonic Adventure, then
Sonic Forces is a decidedly average
game; neither bad, nor particularly good either.
If they really ARE making
Sonic 1 - Mania be a different continuity from the one starting with
Sonic Adventure, then we could have three continuties and a chance for more
Classic Sonic specific
games like Mania and more Modern
Sonic specific
games like Forces, and more Boom

i am just saying in the 4 player thing it would be kind of cool in a different
game like in a 2D
sonic battle similar to the one on the GB but in the
classic sonic style with machinics similar to the download
game dishwasher on the 360 i played the demo it was epic with the slow motion attack effects.

like classic Sonic more (we all have our opinions), but missing out on an entire
game because of that one tiny detail seems REALLY stupid.
