I've found that having my husband read the book aloud is a great way to check for things
like dialogue tags — because if they aren't clear, he doesn't know what voice to use!

Characters interact in fun little ways, and some of the cutest touches come in things
like pre and post battle
dialogue or even in the tone of how characters call each other into battle,
like the overwrought, slightly mocking way Spider - Man calls Frank West (whose original, true voice actor returns) in to
tag.

This type of editing also looks at your narrative technique — things

dialogue tags and beats.
She breaks a lot of writing «rules» that sometimes takes me out of the stories (
like changing world facts to cover up plot holes, or overusing the same three adverbs with every
dialogue tag), but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy her stories!
