It's just so much easier to toss into the car some prepackaged snacks (from Whole Foods, sure, but little better nutritionally than Goldfish crackers) and a Honest Kids juice pouch than it is to come up with something better, but maybe more labor intensive,
like sliced fruit or a

LL: My # 1 tip for packing real food lunches is to make
homemade items in advance (
like waffles, smoothies,
muffins, soups, etc.) and freeze them.
My kids are usually ravenous after school and when they were younger (and I was a much better parent) I had a snack ready for them — usually cut - up fruit and something a little more substantial,
like baked corn chips with melted cheese, hummus or guacamole, a bowl of cereal, or, if I was really on my game, a
homemade, whole - grain - and - fruit
muffin.
I actually stick with white rice, and mainly eat things
like sweet potatoes, winter squash, and even occasional
