Like other platformers, you have to keep the focus on the ball while trying to get safely through a group of different scenarious.
Rather than hitting a jump button every time you want to jump
like any other platformer, here, you simply hold down the sprint button, and the game will make all the jumps, all the ledge grabs, and perform all the rope sliding sections for you, automatically.
Not exact matches
Because of this, I wasn't always motivated to go back and find what I was missing whereas in games
like Super Mario 3D World and
other platformers from Nintendo I typically did
like to go back and find collectibles.
Not necessarily, it looks
like DK Tropical Freeze is not some mere «2D cartoon
platformer», but has multiple tiers of action, with level interaction and very large intricate enemies attacking from the foreground and background, a lot of very highly detailed and fluidly animated elements within each level, not to mention who knows how advanced the enemy AI is for each character on the screen possibly acting independently or interdependently of each
other, all this requires lots of processor power to pull off let alone maintain a steady 60 fps.
If there is one thing I
like in my
platformer games, it's the ability to also make my own levels and plays those made of
others.
Games
like Cuphead, Super Meat Boy, Celeste, and a slew of
other fantastic games are leading the way for
platformers in 2018, and I couldn't help but want to see Nintendo inject some of the same originality found in those games, but nonetheless, the game is still a solid
platformer and has the heart of a classic Nintendo
platformer.
One is for the people who love rainy film noir, the
other is for fans of hardcore
platformers, the third one feels
like a summer blockbuster.
The game has a lot of small nuances
like this that separate it from most
other platformers, besides its one - finger control scheme.
Others,
like 2D
platformers that demand precise control, just don't.
Therefore, most gamers will play it
like any
other 2D
platformer.
i want them to have a party game together, a racing game together, a
platformer together where bowser and dr. eggman team up and mario and sonic team up (they discover each
other's worlds because mysterious portals appear or something
like that), and maybe a sports game (or a few) together.
Other notable releases this week include another pair of classic Arcade Archives games, Sengoku 2 and Star Force; the critically acclaimed text adventure Subsurface Circular; the horror game Detention; the investigative game A Normal Lost Phone; the 2D
platformer Little Triangle; and the Q - Bert -
like puzzler Totes the Goat.
Something not
like other recent games especially with the recent popularity of sidescrolling
platformers...
I feel
like there might be too many indie
platformers hitting Steam and
other marketplaces now.
The remaining stretch goals will be used to help creators make games in genres
other than «adventure»,
like platformer, brawler, and more.
Jak creators Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin have always put gameplay first in all of their projects, and the first Jak and Daxter, more than anything, was trying to be
like Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and
other golden age
platformers.
It's always nice to have the option, but it's entirely possible to enjoy the game with these different control methods as long as they work, and in Nintendo's
other 2 - D
platformers,
like Wario Land: Shake It and NSMB Wii, they did.
This game has enough creativity going for it to justify 240 Microsoft Points, especially if you've already finished
other unmissable XBLIG
platformers like «Along Came A Spider», «Oozi: Earth Adventure Ep.
After defeating the Boss in each stage the player retrieves one of his lost belongings and continues his journey, much
like Mega Man or
other notorious action
platformers of the 16 - bit decade.
There's no
other platformer like it!
Like many
other platformers Origins will often test your hand eye coordination and speed and although this can result in some frustration, it means the game offers a pleasant challenge.
Gamers nostalgic for a 3D
platformer that has all the hallmarks, good and bad, of the genre are sure to rejoice at Yooka - Laylee, while
others may wish for a few more modern conveniences (
like a map!)
Mutant Mudds Super Challenge is a very competent 2D
platformer, but it fails to differentiate itself from the many
other retro - style side - scrollers just
like it.
This new installment in the Pikmin series will be a sidescrolling
platformer rather than a strategy game
like the
others.
To me, and most
others, it looks
like somewhere in the middle of a
platformer and a FPS.
Sure it is a solid
platformer, but with
others like Jak, Sly or Ratchet exploring new gameplay ideas in their respective series, Ty 3 doesn't do enough to keep up.
If you dig the old school days of
platformers and hearken to the feelings that games
like Metroid, Super Mario, Ninja Gaiden, and
other such titles may have given you decades ago, Cave Story is a love letter to players
like you.
Another homebrew coder, Shiru, played Alter Ego and
liked the puzzle
platformer enough to port it to NES, adding new graphics, original music (by composer Kulor), and
other changes.
A Hat in Time is a quirky 3D
platformer where you race to collect rocket fuel for her space ship across the various open worlds whilst preventing
others like Mustache girl from collecting it.
Other than that there are mainly just
platformers and kiddie games on the system that don't appeal to me all that much and don't really keep me coming back to play over and over again
like Killzone Mercenary and Call of Duty as these games offer great online ranking systems / leveling up that keep me hooked and have console quality multiplayer matchmaking anywhere I have access to WiFi.
The quirky graphic style attempts to compensate for the familiar, and at times dull gameplay, and much
like developer Good - Feel's
other Nintendo
platformer, Kirby's Epic Yarn on Wii, feels
like it is largely adhering to the recent Nintendo trend of style over substance.
Clustertruck has a physics based
platformer like no
other.
Like Sonic and many
other action -
platformers of the past you'll find yourself speeding through a world from left to right defeating baddies and solving puzzles along the way.
Similar sentiments have also been expressed by Eurogamer (who said it was pretty magical), Digitally Downloaded (who said there's little it can't do as a classic
platformer) and various
others like them.
With the recent uptick in 3D
platformers, let's hope
other developers are paying attention to details
like these that can make a seemingly subtle aspect of a game so significantly effective.
The game has been described as retro 16bit 3D
platformer that fuses the best elements from Sonic, Mario Galaxy, Marble Madness, Monkey Ball and Pinball but adds its own twist to create a fresh and compelling gameplay experience
like no
other.
We're going to ignore the existence of Federation Force
like most Metroid fans and instead state that there hasn't been a new Samus Aran game since
Other M. Now, whether or not this franchise returns in FPS or
platformer form (we'll happily take either) is unclear, but it feels
like the right time for a proper Metroid experience on console.
Nintendo did a great job in some areas this generation — the WII and DS both had great
platformers from the Mario series / DKC ect but it lacked in
others like RPGs, FPSs, ect.
While still holding true to its individuality, Kick and Fennick seems
like it may have been inspired by
other great
platformers like the popular adventure series, Ratchet & Clank.
Inspired by classic collectathon
platformers like Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64 (among
others), three different teams have funded new projects in the style of the N64 games we all know and love.
That's because unlike
other such
platformers, each level in Odyssey has a minimum of two paths: The main, storyline path, which gives you missions
like Sunshine
In a market with big names
like Deadlight, Braid, Super Meat Boy, Limbo (all years old at this point), and then litterally hundreds of
others not - so well known — but good puzzle
platformers, something needs to stick out.
Half the game is 2D
platformer; the
other half is a rich simulation packed with secrets and interlocking pieces that make the entire game feel
like a living organism designed with the express purpose of killing you.
Because of this, Rocket Knight Adventures feels much more in line with an arcade - style Contra, rather than following the ethos of typical console
platformers like all of Sonic's
other clones.
The game is very challenging and still a
platformer like all
other Mario titles, but Super Mario Bros 2 is unique in the Mario universe.
Spanning 24 short levels, Run is a pleasant, if a little too safe, no - brainer from a company that excels at crafting
platformers like almost no
other, but the normal glee derived from guiding the nimble little plumber through the various obstacle courses that make up the Mushroom Kingdom is noticeably lessened by the lack of control and content.
It's still familiar to the fans sure, but it's modernised and brings the series inline with the
likes of Rayman, Shantae and various
other platformers on newer systems.
By now, everyone likely knows that it's a 3D -
platformer collect - a-thon
like the
others, but I've got some good news for the fans in that Mario Odyssey feels even better.
