Solar panels in my area are laughable, since the combination of tornados, hail storms, ice storms, thunderstorms, powerful winds that can knock down loose tree branches (and this area has a lot of native trees), and even the simple fact you can go two weeks without seeing the sun just because the weather feels like it.
A really powerful supercomputer would be able to improve climate models a very great deal by calculating explicitly important processes like turbulence, convection, thunderstorms, tornadoes, orographic precipitation etc that are unavoidably «parameterized» today.
