But I
like a number of things
about this
lunch container.
What I
like most
about this recipe is that you get a whole lot of
lunches out of a relatively modest amount of work.
Lunch has always been one of my favorite meals of the day because (and I'm trying not to sound selfish when I say this) but it's my meal — meaning, it's the one meal of the day that I am not thinking of anyone else's
likes / dislikes / wants / not wants, it's all
about me.
I brought it to work (with a little bag of crushed peanuts, I don't
like them heated) for
lunch and everyone raved
about how wonderful it smelled!
And I just so happen to have all of these ingredients lying
about... sounds
like a perfect
lunch!
It sounds
like you guys have so much fun together and honestly I'm just thinking #relationshipgoals
about it all;) This bowl looks
like something I would love to have for
lunch.
A typical full day of eating for me looks
like: Breakfast: Spinach, Mushroom, Onion and Tomato Frittata... sometimes with bacon or homemade sausage Iced Coffee with coconut milk
Lunch (this is usually my largest meal of the day): 4 - 5 ounces of protein (turkey burger, pulled pork, chicken thighs, ground buffalo), roasted veggies and sometimes a sweet potato or butternut squash Snack: apple with almond butter or a handful of macadamia nuts Dinner: A large salad with all kinds of raw veggies (cucumber, celery, carrots, cauliflower), avocado or olives, usually a lighter protein
like grilled chicken breast, salmon or shrimp This would represent a full menu... I would say I hit this
about 4 - 5 days a week, other days I may omit the snack or keep the snack and omit a meal, if i do that though I would add a bit of protein with it.
I
liked that the 4 main meals weren't scheduled for specific days so I didn't have to worry
about wasting food if other plans came up for
lunch or dinner.
Whenever my schedule gets too busy and I can't spend as much time as I'd
like in the kitchen, I'm all
about simple dinners and
lunches.
Tahini is so popular around here, and everyone eats it just
about every breakfast,
lunch or dinner, but I started
liking it only a few years ago.
And some bad,
like, «Crap, I have to make
lunches and have parent / teacher conferences and yell at my kid
about homework.»
But every now and then I'll look at a working mom, in her lovely, unstained work clothes, talking
about how she was able to grab a manicure on her
lunch break, posting pictures of her business trip to London, and I'm
like, «OMG THEY ARE SO LUCKY!»
Including a small treat (
like the small chocolate square) makes them excited
about opening their
lunch.
I'm also a fan of bloggers
like you and Dana that push parents to dissect school
lunch reform a bit more and think
about what goes into the problem so real solutions might be found.
The other thing I
like about using containers versus a bento box now, is I have a drawer full of small various containers and cloth snack bags to rotate through while packing
lunch items.
If you're reading this email, that's a great step, but there are many more ways to equip yourself as a dad: read up
about fathering issues and challenges; ask an older dad whom you respect to meet you for
lunch, and ask him lots of questions; take the initiative to organize regular meetings with other men that include discussions
about fatherhood —
like this dad did before his first child was born.
Before school even started my anxiety
about having to prepare a delicious
lunch that my kid would actually eat led me down a Pinterest black hole in which I found myself pinning images of flower - shaped
lunch meats and bananas sculpted to look
like characters from Frozen.
They weren't going to give it to me, even though we had our name on it in the fridge (just
like lunch...) We had to call the OB and have her sign off on the release, and then I had to sign
about four different forms, and then they finally gave it to me in a bag with «Biohazard» all over it.

I can't help but point out the obvious disconnect here: when you're already talking
about a massive federal program

Lunch Program, it seems a little misplaced to be complaining
about federal regulation of that program.
However, spring is also a great time to look ahead and begin planning — perhaps you are putting the finishing touches on summer feeding, or maybe you are already thinking
about fall semester, and that new program you hope to implement,

like the
