I've written an essay for Wednesday's Op - Ed page offering a short look at extreme weather in a warming world and the two prongs of the climate challenge — the need to
limit human vulnerability to the worst the climate system can throw at us and to curb emissions that are steadily raising the odds of unwelcome outcomes, particularly extreme heat and either too much, or too little, water.

«Marine species are under threat from
human impacts, but knowledge of their
vulnerabilities is

Our data here, combined with over a dozen physiological and behavioral
human studies that begin to point to the prenatal period as a BPA window of
vulnerability, suggest that pregnant mothers
limit exposure to plastics and receipts.
This volume provides an overview of the artist's work of the last 10 years, with commentary on Taylor - Wood's exploration of such themes as the inner psyche,
vulnerability — both emotional and physical — suspended states of being and the aspiration to transcend
human limits.
This is what counts as progress in the two - decadelong slow slog toward finding a common (but differentiated) worldwide path toward
limiting emissions of greenhouse gases and
limiting vulnerability to the impacts of

IPCC Working Group II Contribution to AR5 The Working Group II contribution to the Fifth Assessment Report considers the
vulnerability and exposure of
human and natural systems, the observed impacts and future risks of climate change, and the potential for and
limits to adaptation.
This highlights the
vulnerability of many agricultural systems and associated
human vulnerability to future climatic changes, as necessary adjustments to farming practices (e.g., using more tolerant crop varieties, irrigation, etc.) are likely to be costly and some of the most extreme reductions in plant growing days are expected in tropical countries with
limited economic capacity (Figs 2 and 5).
Most key
vulnerabilities are related to (a) climate phenomena that exceed thresholds for adaptation, i.e., extreme weather events and / or abrupt climate change, often related to the magnitude and rate of climate change (see Box 7.4), and (b)
limited access to resources (financial, technical,
human, institutional) to cope, rooted in issues of development context.
