some limitations of recent studies on the health effects of spay / neuter.
In these 2 blogs, I have covered a few (but not all) of
the limitations of the recent studies on health effects of neutering and their reporting.
Not exact matches
One key
limitation of the
recent Fitbit
study, says Dr. Vincent Thijs, an expert on stroke at the University
of Melbourne's Florey Institute
of Neuroscience and Mental Health, is that it demonstrates only that the tracker and algorithm can detect persistent or permanent atrial fibrillation, rather than paroxysmal AFib (or short, sudden spasms).
Recent studies reveal that approximately one quarter
of pregnant women may suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), the recurrent cessation or
limitation of normal breathing during sleep.
The results from these
studies have been the subject
of a
recent review and debate (Filges & Friedman, 2015; Chitty, Friedman & Langlois, 2016), where both the merits and
limitations of WES applications in malformed fetuses are presented.
Some
of the acknowledged
limitations of the data used in the Coleman
study — the need to focus on the relationship between teacher variables averaged to the school level and student achievement, in particular — have been addressed by more -
recent research.
It then illustrates some
of the
limitations of the Pell proxy through an analysis
of five iterations
of the National Postsecondary Student Aid
Study (NPSAS) spanning the years 1995 - 96 to 2011 - 12, the most
recent year for which data are available.
Summary: (To include comparison groups, outcomes, measures, notable
limitations) Note: The current version
of Enhancing Adoptive Parenting is a combination
of the two parenting interventions tested in this
study so this
study does not evaluate the current Enhancing Adoptive Parenting program as a whole.This
study evaluated two parenting programs designed for
recent adopters
of children from the foster care system.
Based on these mixed results and
limitations in generalizability, more
studies are needed with (a) adequate controls for key socioeconomic and family composition factors known to be associated with behavior problems in children, (b) early assessment
of temperament, (c) samples that include higher risk children (e.g., low - income families, children with health problems, etc.), and (d) controls for behavior problems that predate the exposure to
recent family conflict.
The results are interpreted and
limitations of the
study are discussed within the context
of recent foster care reform policies and applications for practice.
A
recent review
of studies published in the November 2014 Psychological Bulletin found that, among seniors, volunteering is likely to reduce the risk
of dementia and is associated with reduced symptoms
of depression, better self - reported health, fewer functional
limitations and lower mortality.
