«We had
lines at the
opening,» said Anita Ragusa, the manager of David Zwirner's 19th Street
galleries.
New York's most popular
open house this weekend was in Chelsea, where a
line stretched down the block Saturday morning for Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama's newest exhibition, «Give Me Love,» at the David Zwirner
gallery.
The
line usually begins forming about an hour before the
gallery opens at 10 a.m. Throughout the day, it moves at a snail's pace, as docents, hired to manage the flow, admit one or two people at a time to the twinkling - lights chamber, with the slow, steady regularity of a drip feed.
At the
opening reception at the Chelsea
gallery where the new works were revealed, the
lines snaked down 19th street (where the
gallery lives) around the corner to 10th Avenue.
«Her medium is energy,» was the apt comment by the Serpentine's artistic director Hans - Ulrich Obrist's at yesterday's (29 November)
opening of Rose Wylie's solo show of enormous exuberant canvases, which
line the walls of the Serpentine Sackler
Gallery.
Opening Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, «

Finally, a big welcome to the Nave Annex, which is our newest and only
gallery in Davis Square —
opening night (January 25th) had 300 folks coming to the
gallery, many of whom waited in
line in the frigid weather to get in, just to see artwork!
