Even though Titan lacks sunlight, NASA's Huygens probe detected what looked like
liquid methane on the mini planet's surface in 2005.

As you chill the
methane and oxygen below its
liquid point, you get a fairly meaningful density increase — you get
on the order of 10 % to 12 % density increase, which makes quite a big difference for the propellant load.

on this strange world, but differences arise due to the presence of unfamiliar
liquids like
methane.
Once there it will produce propellant
on Mars itself, either by distilling carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and mixing it with hydrogen brought from Earth to generate
methane and oxygen or by electrolyzing water from the permafrost to make
liquid hydrogen and oxygen.
Spectral data also showed that the apparent lakes seem to be filled with
methane and ethane, which would be
liquid on Titan's frigid surface.
Research in the past several months has further fueled the excitement, yielding new hints of
liquid water
on Enceladus and revealing ethane lakes and
methane rain
on Titan.
Methane on Titan plays the role of water
on Earth, complete with
liquid surface reservoirs, clouds and rain — a full - fledged methalogical cycle.
The azotosome is capable of functioning in
liquid methane, which is present in abundance
on Titan, at temperatures of 292 degrees below zero.
Cassini, which began its journey over two decades ago, facilitated the publication of more than 3,000 scientific papers with the data it collected and is responsible for several major discoveries, including
liquid methane seas
on Titan and evidence of hydrothermal activity
on Enceladus.
Too cold for
liquid water, the only
liquid on Titan is in the form of
methane — any water is frozen rock - solid.
Even Titan, a large moon of Saturn with a thick atmosphere, might conceivably have some unusual biology
on its cold surface, where lakes of
liquid methane and ethane may exist.
Among the probe's major discoveries were Titan's
liquid methane seas and a global ocean
on Saturn's moon Enceladus that showed evidence of hydrothermal activity.
Additional unprocessed images gathered during Cassini's plunge are available online, along with hundreds of thousands collected by the probe during the more than 13 years it has spend studying Saturn and its moons — observations which resulted in the publication of more than 3,000 studies and such discoveries as
liquid methane seas at Titan and hydrothermal activity
on Enceladus.
Although
liquid water may be inside Mars where conditions are warmer, that possibility does not apply to Pluto, where temperatures are so cold there should be no
liquid water
on or inside Pluto to produce
methane.
Instead, it will be used
on - location to create gas (
methane) or
liquid fuel from ambient CO2 and hydrogen from electrolysis.
