lit outdoor shots and indoor shots with adequate light are surprisingly great and a big step up from the Redmi Note 3.

Outdoor shots with a fair amount of ambient
light looked crisp and colorful, such as an image of a New York City street and a blue sky in the background.
There are bags of options within the camera app - ISO, exposure adjustment, timer, anti-shake,
light metering options, 13 scene modes and four filters - but what we really liked was the
Outdoor Visibility mode which puts the screen up to maximum brightness so that you can see what you're
shooting even in bright sunlight (even if it does switch itself off every time you come back to the app) and the fact that the shutter delay is as short as you'll find on any smartphone.
For an

light conditions, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro generally delivers good target exposure, even in tricky high - contrast scenes, where both shadow and highlight detail are well - preserved.

Noise reduction is also good, especially under bright
light, and although some luminance noise is visible in homogenous areas (such as the sky when
shooting outdoors), it's not a significant concern.
Fine detail preservation in
outdoor and bright -
light shots is excellent and on par with some of the best performers we've tested, such as the Samsung S8, iPhone 7 and Google Pixel
Outdoor shots look fantastic and it performs better in low
light than a Samsung, Motorola, or LG phone, but it still can't balance
light as well as Apple's phone.
Some white balance inconsistencies, including a slight pink colorcast in some
outdoor exposures and in low -
light images
shot under tungsten
light sources, reduced the score.
In plus version you get a dual camera setup which is a 12 megapixel camera with F 1.5 aperture for low
light photography and F 2.4 aperture for
shooting outdoors.
The only downside is the camera, which while decent at
outdoor shots struggles when it comes to low -
light imagery.
Some
shots I took came out stunning, but it does take long to focus even
outdoors when the
lighting was fine.
The new flagship's improved aperture offers significantly better low -
light shooting than the Galaxy S8, and the phone captured a ton of fine detail in busy
outdoor scenes.
Photos aren't as detailed as one would expect, but I found that selfies taken on this phone look quite clean, with barely any noise when
lighting is good or when you're
shooting outdoors.
A slight pink color cast also occurs on images
shot under a tungsten
light source, but these colorcasts are much milder than the strong orange cast
outdoors.
Using the 2x optical zoom, fine detail preservation is excellent in both
outdoor and indoor conditions; and although softer and noisier in extreme low
light, zoom
shots remain acceptable.
While it does an average job of clicking pictures in bright
outdoors,
shots taken in low -
light seem are not so great.
When
shooting outdoors in good
lighting conditions, strong detail preservation is also evident, with almost no noise visible, even in homogenous areas of color such as the sky.

In low
light, image quality does suffer at 5x magnification, so restrict the use of the digital zoom if you can to
shooting outdoors or in bright
light, where it performs best.
Digital zoom
shots at 4x are also very good when
shooting outdoors, and are acceptable at 8x, but good detail preservation in lower
light conditions using the digital zoom remains challenging.
The 16mp camera is performs great in
outdoor light, without oversharpening and good saturation, close to the actual colors, however the same can not be said about the low -
light shots where you have to be very careful with positioning according to
lighting to be able to get decent
shots.
I took a number of great photos with the Xperia XA1 Ultra's 21 - megapixel camera, though in most cases I
shot these images while
outdoors when the
lighting was nearly perfect.
In good
outdoor lighting it's possible to get some half - decent
shots, but it struggles most of the time while indoors.
Pixel XL saves the naturally - looking colors despite the
outdoor light, contrary to the Sony model which once again goes for a darker
shot.
