But with the widespread failure of the field to
come to any agreement about the Bible's own categories of discourse, its special modes of
literary expression and intentionality, and especially those social and religious factors that handed the Old Testament over to us, we have simply been thrown back on ourselves and the deeply felt convictions with which we began the process of
interpretation.
