A good credit card can be a tool to rebuild your credit, but only if you manage it responsibly by always paying your bills on - time and carrying little, if any, debt.

By taking out a small installment loan and making your payments on time and perhaps, paying it off a little early you are proving that you have what it takes to make those monthly payments that are necessary to paying off a large loan.

If you are 25, have little debt, which you are paying off on time, have an emergency fund, and you are making regular contributions to your 401k, you are certainly NOT «being seriously irresponsible» by owning a nice car.

If you had a recent collection within six month go ahead and pay that off as time goes by the date reported will sunset on your credit score and it will take a couple years before it has very little effect on your credit score and then fall off within seven to ten years.

My brother started at the same time I did but he paid too much for Coke, Mattel, MCD, Exxon and so on so all his stocks were down by a lot recently... He also put US dividend growth stocks inside his TFSA account and as such lost 30 % of his dividends... With the recent dip he has decided it was enough and quit the plan... I'm sad he didn't take the time to listen to me a little more, read more books and blogs and educate himself a little more... but he's not a very patient guy.

It is really a matter of timing as I think folks know they should spay — they just have no idea that by waiting that extra month they will probably have an additional six or eight little ones to place; meanwhile the other animals in the shelters, or on the streets, pay with their lives.

Personally I think that the time has come for the Canadian public to focus a little more on the economics of a grossly expanding expectation of government regulation of our actions, and a dropping capacity on the part of the public to understand and interact with that regulation without a lawyer, followed by a diminished capacity to pay those lawyers (See the NSRLP — http://representingyourselfcanada.com/)
