Because of the very large
changes on Baffin Island through the early Holocene, including a major reduction of glacier
elevation, it is not evident that the recent exposures can
in themselves constitute a comparison of Early Holocene and present temperatures, though they definitely show a resumption of the glacier drawdown that was interrupted by the
Little Ice Age.
But at lower
elevations with chaparral and patches of conifer, there has been
little research, and
changes in vegetation type can result
in radical
changes in fuels, affecting fire behavior.
