I have been kicking around the idea of painting my
mid century brick fireplace but have been a
little apprehensive.
It's maybe a
little more
mid century than I would want, as I think if I could start from scratch I would only have one leather chair (we have 3 - eek!)
The results with this year's «Rock The Kasbah,» penned by Glazer and directed by Barry Levinson, are marginally better, but not by all that much: It's an utterly forgettable and ineffectual «comedy» that's more reminiscent of Murray's
mid -»90s nadir («Larger Than Life,» «The Man Who Knew Too
Little,» et al) than the more critically adored stuff he's been making this
century.
It follows that, if they are not being dishonest, by «warm phase» they do not mean as warm as the
mid to late twentieth
century, but only warmer than the
Little Ice Age.
Some studies show that the
Little Ice Age in the
mid 17th
century was associated with more cases of political upheaval and warfare than in any other period (Parker 2008, Zhang et al., 2011), including in Europe (Tol and Wagner 2010), China (Brook 2010), and the Ottoman empire (White 2011b).
The currently warming period is a «recovery» after
Little Ice Age that occurred from late 14th to
mid 19th
century.

He is also wrong about the
mid 20th
century pause / or slight drop in temperature, this correlates well with a negative PDO, and has nothing to do with aerosols, which also have
little effect.
The Google book archive shows very
little use of the terms «global warming» and «climate change» in books until the
mid 1980s («climatic change» does appear, pretty steadily, through the entire 20th
century).
Projected changes for the 21st
century over land and in
mid and high latitudes will be larger than the projected change in the global average temperature, so again, past experience will provide
little guidance for the future.
It may be asking a for a lot of research to put that together, but I think a non cherry picked set of graphs would be a more credible demonstration that although the earth appears to have been warming at a rate of around 1 degree F per
century since the end of the
Little Ice Age in the
mid 1800s, there's no convincing evidence that this warming is anything other than a natural process.

century, temperatures increased as atmospheric CO2 increased, but prior to 1860 atmospheric CO2 remained virtually constant while temperatures varied, up and down, including the medieval warm period and the
little ice age.
I'm liking a
little bit of the
mid century modern look but not too much of it.
ANYWAY... I was a
little uncertain about using chalk paint on something
mid century modern, but I was looking for a flat matte look and knew the ol' Annie Sloan chalk paint would do the trick.
