A little prep work is the difference between your college cafeteria, where the most exciting salad - bar ingredient was Craisins, and the Sweetgreen / Tender Greens / Venture - Capital - Backed - Grain - Bowl - Dispensary - Near - You, where it'd be weird if your roasted curry cauliflower weren't casually drizzled with tahini yogurt.

This section of the salad bar is your secret best friend when you need to buy just a little bit of an ingredient for a recipe, so you don't end up buying a whole head of celery you don't need just so you can use 1/4 cup in a dish.

I love the idea of finding pizza toppings at the salad bar... awesome plan if you want just a little to sprinkle on top.

Obviously, Mexico was certainly the time of peak avocado consumption on my holiday, but the inspiration for this roasted broccoli and guacamole salad actually comes from a little place I visited in NYC a few times; a chain of salad bars called sweetgreen.

I posted on my personal Facebook page a while back about my writer's block and also about my obsession with sesame sticks, the super crunchy, savory little sticks sold in produce departments and served on salad bars.

Soon those magical little fiddleheads will find their way to the salad bars at Madison Middle and High Schools!

In other schools in the district, staff were a little more nervous about the introduction of salad bars to their cafeterias.

I heard statements like; «little kids can't eat off of salad bars,» «salad bars are sanitation nightmares,» «older kids will spit in them,» «they cost too much,» «there's too much waste,» and «they take too much payroll.»

The kids love these quirky little veggies and request them for the salad bar when they are in season.

«The weather is changing a little bit down here... getting a bunch of rain but we're still keeping our kids healthy, especially with our salad bars!»

It's an entertaining journey told with humility and humor, and made even more interesting by the many little «sidebars» sprinkled throughout the book covering everything from salad bars to recess to hormones in milk.

I've had enough bad experiences with «healthy» salad bars to be a little skeptical when a new one is recommended.

Those supermarket - based soup and salad bars can look so tempting: they contain fresh, healthy food for a meal that requires little effort on your part.

So what we've done here - again, we're in our fourth year of change, so I think it's a little different, but we market salad bars as endless.

I thought it was cute they had a little «salad bar» setup next to the dugong exhibit.

We farewelled the city in style last night with a drink — passionfruit vodka and champagne cocktail — at Bemelman's Bar at the Carlyle Hotel (Woody Allen plays jazz there) and dinner at Bar Boloud — amazing peekytoe crab salad with avocado, coconut and curry aioli, with a dessert of whiskey ice cream and some salted caramel thingy, followed by a little basket of complimentary and completely divine mini madeleines.
