A few weeks ago, I picked up some peach - ginger tea at an interesting
little spice store in Sayville.

These delicious
little treats are made with a short list of ingredients: pie crust (
store bought or homemade - see TIPS below), pumpkin puree, brown sugar and pumpkin pie
spice.
I also substitute the
spices listed with a Ras Al Hanout blend and a
little bit of Za'atar (both are well worth searching out at your local Middle - Eastern / Moroccan
store).
Part of my problem is: having grown up on
spices I find most restaurant or
store - bought soups a
little bland and then I have to make a spicy version of it.
It took me 15 minutes of looking at the
spices in the grocery
store to find out that it's called a generic «Red Pepper» with a tiny
little Cayenne on the label.
Chinese five
spice blend contains cinnamon, star anise, fennel, szechuan peppercorns and cloves, so you can either leave it out of the recipe completely, or add a few shakes of ground cinnamon, ground fennel, and black pepper (whole szechuan peppercorns can be found in Asian grocery
stores, but if you don't have them, more black pepper will add a
little extra heat).

store is more likely to use better
spices and herbs to flavor their chickens,» he says.
To get all the
spices I needed, I went straight to the source: a
little Bengali grocery
store in the East Village, just blocks from the abundant take - out joints on Curry Row's E. 6th Street.
I bought my mom a bunch of
little jars of interesting
spices from a local gourmet
store that encourages customers to reuse and refill.
Once I started making my own homemade herb and
spice blends from bulk ingredients, I was shocked at how much one
little packet of
spices in the
store cost.
Most of the
spices bought from the
store are much more expensive, and there is very
little fragrance.
Of course you can purchase this amazing
little spice at most grocery
stores, but just make sure it is a high quality one.
Better than buying grocery
store spices with
little quantity and it's overpriced
