I put this collection of
caterpillar photos together for my class as part of our project work
on minibeasts,
life cycles, and habitats.

Caterpillars on a Leaf (c. 1952) represents (in a charming semi-figurative style of hatched black
on yellow) the curling form of the creatures, by the early 1960s the artist was no longer focusing
on the world of appearances, jettisoning still -
lifes and interiors for paintings of pure feeling.
Some species can take a while to take hold and mature, but hopefully soon enough there will be new homes for monarch
caterpillars to start their majestic
caterpillar lives and go
on to become some of the most remarkable insects
on the planet.
