The browser by default is set to
load mobile versions of web
sites though one can enforce desktop
versions via developer tools options in the settings menu.
In my case, that
loaded in Safari and gave me a
mobile version of the
site, hooked into the app.
This feature worked most
of the time, but the TouchPad isn't smart enough to
load the full desktop
version of sites, so if you share ESPN
Mobile Web, that's what you'll get on the slate.
It took the Epic 4G Touch an average
of 6 - 7 seconds to
load the
mobile sites of ESPN.com and NYTimes.com, and an average
of 26 seconds to
load the desktop
version of Laptopmag.com.
Nevertheless,
mobile sites loaded in a brisk 5 seconds (ESPN.com and NYTimes.com), while the full desktop
version of Laptopmag.com took an average
of 19 seconds, which is decent.
The Infuse 4G also took slightly longer than average to
load web pages; Laptopmag.com
loaded in an average
of 15 seconds, the
mobile version of ESPN.com took 9 seconds, and the
mobile NYTimes
site took an average
of 4 seconds.
While the phone fired up
mobile sites for ESPN.com and the NYTimes.com in about 6 seconds — the same as the Epic 4G Touch —
loading the desktop
version of Laptopmag.com took about half the time: just 11.5 seconds.
Mobile sites generally took less than three seconds to
load up, while the desktop
version of TechRadar was viewable in around five and fully
loaded in less than 10 seconds.
