As Sapien points out, the EPA had twice before found that dropping mining debris — or as it's commonly referred to, «valley fill» — into rivers degraded water quality and killed the local aquatic wildlife.
And while human health is a concern in any case involving radioactive contamination, let's not forget that any leaks will also effect the local ecosystems, impacting the health of localwildlife, particularly vulnerable aquatic species.
