As The Chronicle reported last month, state and
local home visiting programs are already starting to contemplate cuts if MIECHV funds expire.
MIECHV will expire and the longer that Congress takes to reauthorize this bipartisan evidence - based program, the more likely
local home visiting programs will shut down, home visitors will lose their jobs, and families will lose home visiting services.
At the same time, these early MIHOPE results suggest that the goals and infrastructure of most
local home visiting programs are consistent with the expectations and goals of MIECHV as laid out in federal legislation.
The study includes
local home visiting programs that use one of two national evidence - based models that have been effective at improving birth outcomes: Healthy Families America (HFA) and Nurse - Family Partnership (NFP).
Data will be collected from multiple sources, including surveys; state Medicaid, CHIP, and vital records databases; and program service records kept by
local home visiting programs.
When combined with HFA and NFP programs involved in MIHOPE, the study will draw information from a total of 67
local home visiting programs across 17 states.

local home visiting programs» referral sources, availability of community resources, and strategies and tools home visitors are encouraged to use are highlighted in the graphic below.
The report includes information on the needs identified by states and their plans for using MIECHV funds to meet those needs, a description of where the study is being conducted, some information on the families in the study, and a summary of the goals and infrastructure being used by national model developers and
local home visiting programs in providing home visiting services.
This report presents an early examination of the baseline characteristics of families and
local home visiting programs in the study.
A total of 67
local home visiting programs across 17 states are contributing to this analysis and will be included in the final report.
Detailed implementation experience is based on 88 MIECHV - funded
local home visiting programs in 12 states.
