Over at Slow Food USA's blog, a student described and photographed this unbelievable concoction, sold in his cafeteria as an «a la carte» option for kids who don't want to wait in
the long lunch line.
As I inched down
the long lunch line, I watched jolly hair - netted lunch ladies ladle a piping hot chunky tomato sauce filled with ground beef and onions over steaming hot buns, and was filled with eager anticipation.

I'm sitting at my desk in a building next to the Flatiron looking out over Madison Square Park and dreading how
long the
line will be for whatever overhyped
lunch spot I choose to go to today.

Kids don't stand in the
lunch line thinking about the
long - term repercussions of their food choices (health, planet, animals, etc.).
As
long as we are creating wish lists of changes for school meal programs, how about extending the
lunch period so that kids actually have time to eat their meal after waiting in what can feel like an endless
line to get it?
I cringe a little when I remember how much time I spent in the a la carte
line, but I'm thankful that I had staff who would actively encourage me to make healthier choices, pointing out the fresh fruit that was next to the chips, or telling me what was for sale in the
longer «hot
lunch»
line that day.
Thanks to the high court decision reversing the bribery conviction of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, it is no
longer illegal for a politician to
line his or her pockets off people seeking favors, even if the politician agrees to meetings,
lunches or other «non-official acts» in return.
Avoid

Take those
