longtime Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has said that the Wii U Zelda will push the limits of the Wii U hardware, resulting in the largest possible world the hardware will allow.
In an interview, Eurogamer actually asked
longtime Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma about this, and Aonuma's response was sort of a non-answer:

Likewise, there are tons of little references to the
Zelda series strewn throughout the game which are sure to delight
longtime fans.
«The world of Hyrule, which we created for The Legend of
Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is so large and vibrant that we wanted to offer more for players to experience within it,» said Nintendo developer Eiji Aonuma, the
longtime producer of the
series.
The problem is very much that Old
Zelda fans feel that the
series «belongs» to them, but they earned these feelings by being
longtime fans.
This is a separate project from the new installment of The Legend of
Zelda series that is in development for Wii U by
longtime series producer Eiji Aonuma and his team.
