I usually like to buy pieces that are wood, so I have a «clean slate» so to speak, but black can
look almost like dark wood when it peeks under a coat
of distressed
milk paint.
If you want a distressed
look, you will be sanding some
of your
paint off which is most easily done with
milk, chalk, or mineral
paint.
I applied two coats
of white
milk paint, let it dry and then used a 180 sandpaper grit and sanded the edges here and there, to give it a really nice Shabby Chic
look.

painted one thin coat
of milk paint, applying continuous long brush strokes from one end
of the table to the other.
I love the way the dresser turned out.The
milk paint looks so much better than ordinary
paint and I really appreciate the fact that you hand
painted the design on the drawers instead
of stenciling them.
So instead I got creative and
painted an old set
of windows with Miss Mustard Seed's
Milk Paint in a mixture
of linen and marzipan to match the mantel, and I think it
looks pretty cute for now.
