I have been thinking of doing a white wash
look with
chalk paint on a dinning table but I'm a little nervous about it because I'm worried it won't stand up to kids and I love the color of this dresser.

First I
painted it French Linen but it
looked drab
on this piece, so I
painted over that with Pure White (
Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan).
Recently I gave the legs and base of the bench a quick coat of white

on hand, and I still might distress it a bit, but I'm liking the
look of it much more now.
Not only does
chalk paint give a project vintage
look right off the bat, antiquing and distressing techniques come out much better

My advice to anyone that plans
on using Menards
chalk paint is to take that
paint chip sheet outside to
look at the colors in natural light.
I used white
chalk paint on the shelves first, then buffed a little bit of dark paste wax over the white to give them an antiqued
look.
I used black
chalk paint for a dresser but noticed after
painting it when you touch it there are finger prints
on the
paint it
looks greasey.
If you want to write
on it with
chalk, you're
looking for chalkboard
paint.

I like the
look of soft wax over the pieces I use DIY
chalk paint on.
I did use the
chalk paint on a very intricate nest of tables and was cursing mid-way through it as it was so hard to wax, but I am happy I went through with it as the tables when finished
looked amazing!
And I put the
chalk paint on top as thin as I could and it did NOT
look the same!
And the dresser
looked so good that I actually didn't
paint another coat of
chalk paint on top, I just left it as is!

Thanks you so i only use
chalk paint twice
on lamps (Anne Sloan) a (ceader chest walamrt wavely) so can i do this make my own
chalk paint using satin
paint so when ever i see a scratch or roughness i could touch up but the poly makes a great shine i when i do something i love for it to
look factory made and also if i was to use poly over satin how would i touch up which one is more durable poly over flat or stain

I like the
look of wax
on chalk paint better but you're right, there is maintenance involved when you have a lot of traffic (cough... little, busy hands.)

If you don't plan
on selling your furniture but you like the easy distressed
look or even the antiqued
look, then by all means do the DIY homemade
chalk paint and use antique glaze!
I used a light grey
chalk paint on a side table and used a brown glaze and the whole table went beige and
looked horrible!
Looking back where you just came from... My antique bench with a few

Yes, you can
paint glass very successfully with
Chalk Paint ®, but, the
look I was going for was not going to work
on this.
The first coat of my
chalk paint went
on fine (
looked like pics others have posted after their first coat).
But I don't like the idea of spending a fortune
on boutique brand
chalk paints, especially when I wanted this piece to
look like the color was fading
on it when I
painted it, and that required several different «similar» colors.
If you are after a worn and weathered
look that will gradually fade away, then you will like the way
chalk paint holds up
on pieces that sit outside.
