Dr Tariq Aslam, Senior Lecturer
in Ophthalmology at The University
of Manchester, Consultant Ophthalmologist, at
Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT), and lead author
of the study, said: «There have been amazing scientific achievements
in diagnosing and treating serious eye diseases, such as wAMD, which have revolutionised our ability to reverse life - changing
vision loss.
«As treatments for the earliest stages
of AMD are developed
in the coming years, correct identification
of AMD
in primary eye care will be critical for routing patients to treatment as soon as possible so that the disease can be treated
in its earliest phases and
central vision loss avoided.»

in macular degeneration, eventually leading to the death
of photoreceptors, and the gradual
loss of central vision.
Some typical and possible side effects include
loss of vision, disruption
of the
central nervous system, respiratory illness, anemia, constipation, increased incidence
of heart disease and cancer, low birth weights
in infants and irritability.
Neurotoxic reactions (to the
central and peripheral nervous systems): coma, convulsions, headache, depression, dizziness, irritability, confusion, panic attacks, anxiety, memory
loss, impaired concentration, drowsiness, insomnia, impaired
vision, stupor, spaciness, giddiness, slurred speech, twitching muscles, tingling

loss of muscular coordination.
The American Macular Degeneration Foundation warns that retinal damage caused by direct exposure to blue light may lead to macular degeneration, which causes the
loss of central vision — the ability to see what's
