Reading the thread
on this article and I noticed a
lot of people naming
strikers we could have gotten in past transfer windows that have gone to other club and failed, Balotelli, Falcao, Martinez, Boney etc are recurring names in all the comments, and am sat here thinking because they failed in thee clubs does not necessarily mean they would have failed if we had pulled out our fingers and hot them back then, Balotelli aside I strongly believe all of these players could have made a difference playing infront of our midfield and given the kind of attention and care Wenger gives Giroud and Walcott, adapting our play to suit them and giving them chances after chances even when its blatantly obvious they are average players so please lets not keep using that as an excuse for Wenger's ultra careful attitude in the transfer market, they could have failed with us, or they could have been massive for us, all speculations.
I am not sold
on him as a winger, and I think he has a
LOT of work to do to be a central
striker, but I like him and I hope he plays well for someone.
Now keeping in mind not a
lot of top players are available in January and they will be approached hopefully in the summer, as I'm sure we will do big business
on a CB and
Striker.
He will be
on a
lot of top clubs radar, most top clubs want a really good young
striker with potential but none have snapped him up, only an offer of # 14 $ from Tottenham.
Ok can this side work against chelsea, i think it can but i would be a little more defensive in the middle, by taking out ozil and pushing cazorla behind the
striker and add Hayden / Coquelin beside Flamini, we can carry
on Ozil in the last 20 minutes, Chelsea defensive players hates a pacey forward line, so they will be committing
lot of fouls and their backs will be occupied.
What we can do is identify average players with high potential to become world class players, there is a
lot of examples of such players... if u look at the PL top goal scorers right now, there is not a single «world class»
striker on it.
I think our current play is best suited to Giroud as
striker, we seem to put in a
lot of crosses in final third but Welbeck or anyone is not always there to contact, but Giroud can be better in those situations, now we having Giroud back, put Welbeck
on bench for some time (giving him rest, can bring
on Podolski for him) play two
strikers Pod and Giroud upfront.
A
lot of variations can be done now like, Campbell
on right with sanchez as
striker and Özil and Ramsey interchanging places left and centre.
But Watched him quite a
lot over the last 2 seasons, played mostly
on the right wing last season when they had Lewandowski but he's moved into the
striker position and done really well despite Dortmund playing pretty poorly most of this season.
We only have the Arsenal transfer rumours to go
on but it would make a
lot of sense if the Poland international star Robert Lewandowski was high up
on the list of
strikers that Arsene Wenger was after this summer.
Lots of quality
strikers never really did it
on the international stage, so I am not too bothered with his poor record for France.
Its NOT just Giroud its the whole strike force that are absolutly rubbish, I mean yes Giroud misses far more than he scores and that is NOT the mark of top notch
striker, but Wellbeck is not the finished article and to my mind shows no signs of becoming so, He seems to suffer from this innate lack of courage, a
lot like Wallcott does, in laymans terms they sh!t out when it comes to the crunch, Giroud is just not good enough to be the
striker we really need
on the end of Ozil's assists.
Of course he's proven effective with his goal tally, but with Giroud not getting as involved in the build up play (based
on the amount of touches he gets) suggests to me that a
lot of the time, the
striker position is being wasted in front of goal.
Despite Wenger talking up a
lot of our Academy youngsters in the summer, only Jeff Reine - Adelaide (31) has actually been newly promoted to the side although Akpom (32) and surprisingly Sanogo (22), who were both out
on loan last season, have been kept as
striker backups, despite Arsenal having bought Lucas (9) and already having Giroud (12), Walcott (14), Welbeck (23, when fit) and Sanchez (7) all capable of covering that position as well.
... he played there against crystal palace, Everton 2 season ago and it was a disaster... our build up is majorly done closer to d centre circle than d oppositions box... that's y girouds hold up play is vital... either we go with dat path or we look for a
striker who is lightning quick (so when we make d final pass, it doesn't get wasted), uses both legs to shoot
on sight, with good accuracy... playing Sanchez, who is not very good with his back to goal as a 9 is useless and though fast, holds
on to d ball a
lot tryn to get d best angle to shoot... we need a
striker who is very intelligent with d timing of his runs... too bad Walcott is as intelligent as a sheep, cld have been d perfect cf...
Lot of denial going
on here — taking Sanchez out of the
striker equation by pretending he is not a
striker is looney - tune stuff.
But after Wayne Rooney did a brilliant impression of a
striker that had been hypnotised so that he could not see where the goal was today, and United drew a boring blank at home to Newcastle United, there may well be a
lot of plotting and planning going
on behind closed doors at Old Trafford.
Arsenal spent quite a
lot of money
on bringing the 29 year - old Lucas Perez into the squad at the end of the transfer window, and everybody (the fans anyway) thought that he was to be challenging Olivier Giroud for the central
striker position, but it would appear we were all wrong!
Ps there's
lots of ranting
on here about no
striker being signed but isn't the window still open?
I thought people here were debating about two or three seasons back why he should be our top striker. When I thought the Monaco match was the icing
on the cake to show how average he was it seems just like Wenger we» will never learn our lesson. Now people our okay with him being a super sub which is debatable.Giroud was a super sub in games last season because he wasn't played when he was supposed to.He's not your ideal super sub because he very hardly creates but rather requires people to create for him. Most of the time super subs are the one's who tend to create the chances and open up spaces in the opposition defence.West ham are ready to pay and hence we should demand more from them.We can then use the money from his sale
on far better players.Given the same seasons, time and chances a
lot of average
strikers can do better than what he did. This is because Arsenal create a
lot of chances and it just needs someone who can finish.Goodbye!.
Would Henry have missed the shot Giroud has, and Im not just talking about yesterday (Re the Monaco game as just one example) Walcott goes missing and seems terrified of getting too involved in tackles or any rough play that goes
on and is NOT a natural
striker, Welbeck has a
lot of heart but just does nt have the talent, Sanchez is knackered, Ozil is getting fed up with it (look to see if he wants to go elsewhere this summer) Ramsey is missing in action too and looks unlikely to pull himself out of this rut any time soon, belerine looks jaded Mertsaker is too slow and Gabriel too stupid........
I wouldn't be surprised if he waits until the window has closed before signing a new contract, to see who we bring in, if it's a new
striker I can see him leaving, plus if we don't improve a
lot on last year I can imagine the likes of Sanchez and Ozil looking elsewhere to win major trophies in a years time.
1) GK — better 2) LB — same, possibly better if Gibbs improves, Monreal has plateaued 3) RB — better as Bellerin will only improve 4) CB first pairing — same, as the BFG is getting older but he can't get shorter or slower, 5) CB second pairing — better since we didn't have a pair last year 6) DM — better as Arteta is now back up and Coquelin should get even better 7) Box to box — better if you think Ramsey and Wilshire still have room to improve and are still being kept out by Carloza 8) LW — better, Sanchez might not get too much better but Welbeck is an improvement
on Podolski 9) RW — same if Theo moves up front but Ox and Gnabry have
lots of room to improve 10) CAM — same 11)
Striker — better as Giroud / Theo is stronger than Giroud / Sanogo
Can't you see, he killed our game today, because he couldn't run, nor take
on one or two players, gave Sanches, and monreal a
lot of work to do, valensia was just free, we need someone who can run and driddble someone who is effective in every position, maybe isco, payet, Reus.Giroud is very good, ilike him, as a back up
striker, but we deserve a player who scores atleast 25 30 goals a season, someone like Auba, Dembele, lewa, Aguero, kane, I think we deserve more than what we're getting,
One of the big stories in the Premier League today was probably received pretty well by a
lot of Arsenal fans, because with Manchester United coming to play us at the Emirates stadium at the weekend, a three match ban for their main
striker and top scorer Romelu Lukaku would
on the face of it weaken United and increase the chances of an Arsenal win.
I know a
lot of you will want the summer
striker signing Lacazette there but with Alexis Sanchez definitely out I would play him
on the left and use Giroud's aerial ability, presence and link up play in a match which we are likely to dominate anyway.
W all know the Torres palaver — I wouldnt wish him
on you
lot (well maybe) and Drogs is ok for 15/20 minutes as a supersub but we need 2
strikers I say.
The transfer rumours have gone into overdrive since the
striker started following Arsenal
on twitter, as reported by the Evening Standard and he is definitely available and for not a
lot of money.
How
on earth are we going to sign lewy???? to be honest I see IBRA as the only available
striker right now he still has
lots to offer and I'm sure he wouldn't mind a spell at the bpl... getting IBRA would be doable, true he's 33 but he has at least 3 more top draw years lefleft in him.
And the very few
strikers who do score 30 goals a season usually play in systems focused a
lot more heavily
on them.
What do Top Class
Strikers do they score goals
lots of goals we seem to be depending
on our midfield players to score.
He bought Ozil when we needed a
striker He bought Cech (though hes been tremendous for us), when we had Ospina who was doing fine until then and there was szcezny
on whom Arsenal had invested a
lot of money and time.
Now that we have a
lot of pace and with Walcott back soon I think we should play 4 -2-3-1 with Walcott
on the left, Welbeck as a
striker and Sanchez
on the right.
Barca
on the other hand am sure will leave
lots of space so its up to our
strikers to capitalize
on that.
After these first few games he now realises that we need another
striker because Alexis has looked a
lot better
on the wing.
is this the same
striker that
lots of us
on here were calling for wenger to sign last summer for a pittance.
Nothing like one underachiever blowing smoke up the ass of another... we know that Ozil has some incredible technical gifts, but to be considered the best you have to bring more than just assists to the table... for me, a top player has to possess a more well - rounded game, which doesn't mean they need to be a beast
on both ends of the pitch, but they must have the ability to take their game to another level when it matters most... although he amassed some record - like stats early
on, it set the bar too high, so when people expected him to duplicate those numbers each year the pressure seemed to get the best of our soft - spoken star... obviously that's not an excuse for what has happened in the meantime, but it's important to make note of a few things: (1) his best year was a transition year for many of the traditionally dominant teams in the EPL, so that clearly made the numbers appear better than they actually were and (2) Wenger's system, or lack thereof, didn't do him any favours; by playing him out of position and by not acquiring world - class
striker and / or right - side forward that would best fit an Ozil - centered offensive scheme certainly hurt his chances to repeat his earlier peformances, (3) the loss of Cazorla, who took a
lot of pressure off Ozil in the midfield and was highly efficient when it came to getting him the ball in space, negatively impacted his effectiveness and (4) he likewise missed a good chunk of games and frankly never looked himself when he eventually returned to the field... overall the Ozil experiment has had mixed reviews and rightfully so, but I do have some empathy for the man because he has always carried himself the same way, whether for Real or the German National team, yet he has only suffered any lengthy down periods with Arsenal... to me that goes directly to this club's inability to surround him with the necessary players to succeed, especially for someone who is a pass first type of player; as such, this simply highlights our club's ineffective and antiquated transfer policies... frankly I'm disappointed in both Ozil and our management team for not stepping up when it counted because they had a chance to do something special, but they didn't have it in them... there is no one that better exemplifies our recent history than Ozil, brief moments of greatness undercut by long periods of disappointing play, only made worse by his mopey posturing like a younger slightly less awkward Wenger... what a terribly waste
Arsene Wenger was given a
lot of stick for letting the Arsenal
striker Joel Campbell go out
on loan to Sporting Lisbon, despite not having brought in a suitable replacement (at the time), but now the player himself has admitted that it was his own decision to leave Arsenal in the search for more regular playing time.
> Impressive work by Walcott in the second half in the centre of the pitch > El - neny calmed things a
lot when he came
on > Great vision from Sanchez and Ozil for third goal > Game shows why a
striker was absolutely necessary > The passing from Xhaka were a joy to watch
It demands a huge intensity of work and if you look at the other teams, they take off a
lot of
strikers as well after 70 - 80 minutes, between 60 and 80 minutes most of the teams change their
strikers because first of all many times they have to work
on their own up front against two or three people.
As a habit, scoring regularly in a bad team suggests of
lots of positive attributes: not just the finishing skills any decent
striker needs, but concentration, patience, and the ability to stay engaged even when the other end of the pitch is
on fire.
we just need 1 more player... and that's a defensive midfielder cover for coquelin... now, I know
lots of fans will go
on about buying a
striker blah!blah!blah!..
We lack ambition at Arsenal we are the big club that is desperate for the title more than others but we are not showing hunger in our business, We have a scouting that is very poor as we have wasted a
lot of Money
on the wrong Sanchez is the only great player we have bought for decades, Ozil buy was mistake we had carzorla the we wanted a
striker, we wssted money
on xhaka, Elneny, chambers, welbeck, mustafi and finally in lacazette he lacks height and physicality to thrive in epl you saw yesterday he was suffocated by Chelsea defenders he did not look a threat at all, but hey let's blame Kreonke for paying the highest wage bill in Europe for Deadwoods... pooor management poor Arsenal what do you expect
Ozil position should be right behind the
striker, but i think we will see a
lot more variations in the arsenal team this year, he will play
on the wings sometime too.
The Arsenal transfer rumours suggesting that Arsene Wenger is finally closing in
on the signature of the Argentina international
striker Gonzalo Higuain are growing by the day and a
lot of Arsenal fans are hoping that they prove to be true, but I am not one of them.
The problem is that the Chilean is apparently demanding a
lot more than that and something like double the amount that the new Arsenal
striker Alexandre Lacazette is
on.
Giroud does not deserve to lead the arsenal line next season. He should be replaced do u know why?It is because he is always going to miss a
lot of chances and will cost us.people who support him to lead the line have not studied his game clearly.every season he will continue to cost us.But at least i wont say he is useless or something. He is
on the pitch and gives his all so he is useful. He is not clinical and not good at all.He is a
striker who is just above average but sometimes even performs below average in his 3 years over here.Be honest and say it as it is.Some people use stats to constantly defend him yet if you watch him you will be shocked.Walcott can lead the line he has everything to.but as i said he lacks the aggressiveness and physique to be the main man.that will go against him so many times.so its better for him to remain
on the wings.Giroud does not deserve it.We all know that.
Plus Martinez is a very quick
striker and relies
on pace a
lot.
On the
striker situation each day goes by and its deftly quiet for us, mr ozcan is apparently getting
lots of twitter based abuse.
Hahaha pepes here saying Benzema is not significantly better than Giroud.i do not even want to go to stats.Firstly lets talk about finishing, Giroud finishing is not really that good at all.He misses a
lot of chances. He most at times needs many chances to score and all also misses sitters too much.his shot accuracy too ai nt that good at all. This makes him an average finisher.Secondly, lets go to his dribbling abilities.every player has his own limitations.Giroud has average dribbling.there are many times if he could beat a player he would have been through
on goal but since he cant he just waits for support denying the team a chance to score in most cases.Average dribbler. In addition, hold up play, Giroud holds up the ball really well, however, this does not work in all cases against physically strong defenders and also very intelligent defenders his hold up play suffers a
lot.so for hold up play he is ok.i could go
on and
on my word this
striker is not good at all do nt you watch him or you want to use his stats.ah!
