The difference between the upper and
lower radiator hoses is where on the engine they are used.
Sides of
the lower radiator scoop are in opposition to the outer edges of the front end, leaning back at the top instead of rearward.
Anecdotal evidence: Once upon a time I overheated an engine in the dead of winter after a cracked
lower radiator hose lead to all my coolant leaking out — I wasn't aware it was compromised and didn't realize it was leaking out as I was driving.
You should be replacing the upper /
lower radiator hoses occasionally as it is, so definitely give them a check if you haven't replaced them in the last few years.)
You could remove
your lower radiator hose and flush out the radiator.
The lower radiator hose, through which the cooled coolant flows to the engine, is always open to the system.
When you see this happening, you need to stop the car and check
the lower radiator hose.
HOWEVER, as there is no flow through the radiator (
lower radiator hose and bottom driver's quarter of the radiator are COLD), my first concern is getting flow through the radiator and then I'll worry about the radiator fans.
The lower radiator hose and the heater hoses are also cold.

If the radiator is clogged,
the lower radiator hose will probably be cool (or most likely look warm) to the touch (though don't just go grabbing it without knowing the temperature of it... may be a little uncomfortable).
Try to get the heater core hoses and

the lower radiator hose is added extra benefit to ensure bigger pieces of contaminants are rid of.

leave cap off make sure fill with antifreeze and start car allow it to warm up and watch u should be able to see the water flow this will allow the air to come out per air pockets are a big cause... now buy a new
radiator cap per this also small but cause a big prob... also while watching the water flow flow if bubbles stay present it could be head gasket this pushes combustion gas thru and can cause antifreeze to dicipate hence why u keep having to put more unless yur pump leaking or hose this the only other way u will get

Can anyone suggest a
radiator - flush that is
low - sudsing, non-corrosive and safe to run in my cooling - system while driving??? Maybe some sort of detergent that is not going to hurt aluminum and will do a good job of breaking - down dirt, grease and grime... but not hurt a possibly - weak and corroded
radiator (don't have $ $ $ $ allocated to replace it at this time)???? My cooling system is looking pretty dirty!
