Chase really couldn't have made the transfer of Ultimate
Rewards points to airline
loyalty programs any simpler (another reason I like Chase as much as I
do) and the fact that most transfers are instantaneous is a nice bonus — no anxious wait hoping that the award (s) you want to book are still available when the transfer finally comes through.
They're
rewarding people who spend more money on them, but to call this a «
loyalty»
program is a sham, because you don't even need to be loyal anymore to earn more miles.
But I
do think it's great that you can finally earn and redeem points in a
loyalty program that
rewards that kind of commitment, just as I enjoy earning and redeeming points with the hotels that I prefer to patronize.
It's also a favored
program because IVH reservations include
loyalty, so it doesn't cost the property anything to redeem
rewards, and no one at the property needs to figure out how to convert points to free nights.
If Chase doesn't want you transferring Ultimate
Rewards points to and from other people's cards, then they certainly don't want you transferring them to other people's external
loyalty programs.
One measure could be to move to a whole new
loyalty program but, as IHG, Club Carlson and Hyatt all either have poor
rewards programs or don't have enough properties to cover someone who travels widely, that would leave just Hilton... and if Marriott and Starwood elites wanted to stay at Hilton properties they'd already be
doing that by now.
Since the Capital One Venture
Rewards card is not affiliated with any specific airline, hotel or rental car
loyalty program, miles
do not earn elite status.
If someone who didn't know anything about the two
loyalty programs took a look at the qualifying criteria (above) they could easily be forgiven for assuming that Marriott
