Recent studies have revealed volatile material embedded in
lunar volcanic glass collected by Apollo astronauts.
That view began to change in 2008, when researchers found water inside tiny spheres of
lunar volcanic glass.
Although other volatiles were previously detected in
the lunar volcanic glasses and melt inclusions, the measurement of carbon remained elusive due to the high detection limits of the available analytical techniques.
