Luxating Patella — this is a condition when the kneecap does not fit properly
into the groove of the leg bone.
Patella luxation, or knee dislocation, can range in severity from a patella that can be
luxated (dislocated) only in extreme extension and then snaps readily
into place, to a patella that is permanently
luxated medially (toward the center of the dog's body).
Chondrodysplasia, a heritable skeletal disorder that has been incorporated
into the phenotype of many dog breeds [13], predisposes English bulldogs to skeletal disorders such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia,
luxating patella and shoulders, intervertebral disk disease, cruciate ligament rupture, hemivertebra, torsional pelvic deformity and problems with normal copulation and parturition [14, 15].
